- Does Clipsal C-Bus
home automation depend upon a central processor to operate?
No. Clipsal C-Bus is not dependent upon a central processor or computer for day-to-day
operation.
Clipsal C-Bus components have their own microcomputer, memory, and Unit Address on the
C-Bus.
They also retain their own portion of your home automation project's programming in
non-volatile memory.
- Is it possible for me to reprogram my own Clipsal C-Bus
home automation system?
Yes, with care and guidance some home owners may be able to do this.
Your Clipsal C-Bus home automation system is initially programmed
by your Clever Home automation engineer by temporarily connecting a PC to your C-Bus system and
running free C-Bus
commissioning software. We create your C-Bus project database and transfer
this from our laptop PC to each C-Bus component in your C-Bus home automation system. With
care and guidance from your Clever Home automation Engineer you may reprogram some aspects of your C-Bus
system yourself in this way. Refer to What

- Can I reprogram my C-Bus home automation system without a PC?
While simple C-Bus2 systems may be programmed using C-Bus2 Learn Mode
without other hardware or software being required, it is easier to more extensively program
C-Bus home automation systems using a PC. Using a PC also allows the archiving of backup project files,
which may be used to reinstate how a C-Bus home automation system was previously programmed.
- How can I connect my PC to my C-Bus?
Particular C-Bus home automation modules support WiFi, LAN, USB, or RS-232 serial
connection between your Windows PC and C-Bus for programming.
You need to have installed in your home automation system a C-Bus module that supports the
type of PC interface that you want to use.
- How do wired C-Bus networks work?
Wired C-Bus components are interconnected using pink Cat5 C-Bus cable.
This cable carries C-Bus communications and the small amount of power to operate most
C-Bus devices.
The safe extra low voltage of less than 36V DC powers C-Bus devices on the wired C-Bus
network.
- How do wireless C-Bus networks work?
Wireless C-Bus components
communicate wirelessly between themselves using RF communications.
They are powered from standard 240V wiring in the case of wireless C-Bus wall switches
with inbuilt dimmers or relays, or by long life batteries in the case of completely
wireless satellite C-Bus wall switches.
Wireless C-Bus devices can be integrated with a wired C-Bus network using a wireless
C-Bus gateway.
- Can I pre-wire for Clipsal C-Bus
while I am building or renovating, then install C-Bus later?
Yes, but there are several options and it is best to consider which is best for
you (see the above FAQ).
- Can third party control systems be directly integrated with my C-Bus network?
Yes, a growing range of third party home automation equipment support C-Bus connection and
integration.
Examples include professional Inner Range security,
access control systems, and pool control equipment.
- Can C-Bus control third party control systems that cannot connect to my C-Bus
network?
Yes. Your Clever Home automation Engineer can interface C-Bus to third party equipment by
IP connection over your LAN or over the Internet, RS-232 serial connection, programmable
IR remote control, or by relay outputs. Examples include high quality Mobotix IP
surveillance cameras and door stations, zoned
heating/cooling systems, and automatic
watering systems.
